Description
Panji Malat Rasmin. "Depicts the ‘wandering in the mountain scenes’ (mancangkrama) and encounter between Panji and Rangkesari after Panji writes the love letter which Rangkesari discovers. There are seven scenes (from left to right): 1. Panji instructs three noble members of his retinue, his short bald servant kneels in front of him. Between them is a cave (indicated by the coloured archway), the dwelling place of ascetics. 2. Panji is walking accompanied by a short bald servant and an attendant holding an umbrella above his head and his followers. 3. Prabu Melayu with his companions and followers is seen with princesses and their female servants holding umbrellas above their heads. 4. Panji sits on an oval-shaped rock with a protruding elephant-head (karang asti) and writes a letter. Two servants (one in black poleng, the other red poleng) and two other male attendents look on. 5. Princesses sit amongst rocks and look into a mirror. 6. Princesses and their ladies in waiting sitting besides water and have discovered the letter which has washed down the stream. 7. Panji and Rangkesari embrace on the elephant-head rock, there are four princesses partly separated from the couple by a tree."
Abstracted summary
The year 1970 is marked in pencil on the back. "Formerly in Pura Ibu Dadia Pulesari, there are earlier Malat paintings depicting similar scenes from the same temple in the collection of Wredi Budaya, Denpasar (ref Vickers 2005: 223-231). Some of the same scenes are also depicted in the tabing by Ni Putu Suwitri E089727. Note no final black outlining (neling) finishing with kincu. "
