Extended description
Widasari Battle. Showing the beginning of the battle between the forces led by the king of Gegelang and those led by the king of Lasem. The story begins with a conference in the Gegelang camp (left hand end) featuring main characters (from left to right) such as Panji, Prabu Gegelang, a kadean (follower of Panji), a rangga (lower level knight) and a demang (official) who is probably Gagak Baning, then Prabu (King) Melayu. The rangga and Gagak Baning are issuing a challenge to the Gegelang forces. The next scene shows the Gegelang forces setting off to war, and coming across Prabangsa, Panji's older brother. Prabangsa and his followers are fleeing Prabangsa's burning pondok (temporary building). On the other side of the pondok are the forces of the king of Mataram who are firing guns. The king of Mataram himself is shown riding an elephant. In the next scene the rangga and Gagak Baning (from the first scene) are shown journeying back to their rulers. The last scene (right end of painting) shows the armies of the forces opposed to Gegelang. The central figures of this scene are the kings of (left to right) Pajang, Lasem (or perhaps Cemara), Mataram and Cemara (Lasem?), flanked by their forces. This ider-ider is probably from the 19th century.
