B135-038 Twalen and the Gods

Twalen and the Pandawas [or the gods?]. This is a variation on the depiction of Bima as encompassing the power of his family, and shows Twalen or Malen, the heroes' companion servant, as the manifestation of the highest deity's power. "After the war between the PANDAWA's and the KAURAWA's, MALEM is in heaven looking for his masters, the PANDAWA's. SIWA tells him there that the PANDAWA's have been siexed by the demons, born of the pollutiuon of the ocean by the blood and corpses from the war victims. Tekening in inkt en goudverf van Malem, de dienaar van de Pandawa's Deze tekening toont een persoonlijke interpretatie van een episode uit de Mahabharata epos. De grote figuur in het centrum, Malem, houdt verschillende goden in zijn handen. Malem is de dienaar van de vijf Pandawa broers van de Mahabharata epos. Deze helden waren gegrepen door demonen en verdwenen. In dit schilderij is Malem de hemel binnen gekomen en dwingt de goden hem te vertellen waar zijn meesters zijn gebleven. Alleen Malem is in staat tegen deze demonen te vechten en zijn meesters te redden.
