| Extended description |
Towards the end of the Mahabharata after the death of Karna, Aswatama, the son of Droma (who has been killed), accuses Salia who is about to be appointed commander of the Korawa army of partiality in favour of the Pandawas and of treacheous conduct leading to Karna’s death. Both become furious and take on the angry form (pamurtian) assumed by high gods in states of fury. Since they both derive their power from the god Rudra, they are equal and there is no advantage to be gained by fighting. Aswatama is on the left and Salya on the right and the two are being separated by Duryodana, the leader of the Korawas.
