Extended description
Amad in Mesir, told by Ida Bagus Tjeta, Aug 11, 37: In the palace of Egypt was a King, who had no male sons to inherit the kingdom. He died, leaving a daughter, named the Princess of Egypt. Since there was no king, she called together all the officials (permantri). She asked them to get an elephant and they found her a white one. But she couldn't get up on th elephant's back, because she was afraid. So the elephant flew up and went to look for someone to be the King of Egypt. He came to a forest and saw a man sleeping next to a rock, named Mohamed. So the elephant lifted him up with his trunk and flew off with him to Egypt. That was I Amad, the one who rode the elephant to the soldiers (pandjak) of Egypt. . They carried golden spears. And then I Mahamed became the king. Below the text, in GB's wriiting: Story as repeated by Ida Bagus Kompiang (the father of Teroewi). [Ida Bagus Kompiang Keruh] King of Mesir had not daughter. Had no king for her to marry. Mohamed and Amad were in te forest, starving. And Mohamed went to sleep under a bridge while I Amad went to get water. King had promised that who ever could ride the elephant should marry his daughter, but nobody could; finally the elephant went off to fetch Mohamed and flew back with M. on his back, to be met formally by the subjects of Mesir w. gold spears. A Gamboeh story.
