The Myth of the Linggodbhawa, Bedulu, Bali 1937. The myth of the Linggodbhawa: Brahma and Wisnu challenged Siwa's omnipotence, and to prove it, Siwa turned himself into an enormous erect penis with the grimacing face of a demon. Wisnu and Brahma made futile attempts to destroy the giant lingga with their weapons, the Oakra and the Danda. Wisnu changed into the form of a boar to search for the bottom of the pillar, met the earth goddess, Dewi Prthiwi, there and begot a demonic son. Bhoma. Brahma transformed himself into a bird to look for the upper end of the pillar. Realizing their efforts were useless, Brahma and Wisnu paid homage to Siwa as the highest god (Description by Kirsten Schieid and Hildred Geertz, 1991).
