Tomblos had been drawing since 1934 or 1935. He had visited Bonnet and Spies, and had shown his works to them for criticism. He was also a member of their Pita Maha artists' collective. There are twenty-three pictures by him in the Bateson-Mead Commission (H. Geertz 1994: 120). Hohn lists Tomblos as starting to draw since 1933, and only painting rarely after 1949 (1997:66).
